Phone settings that quietly improve strategy games

August 13, 2026 · Marek Dvořák

Strategy and tower defence games lean on reading the screen clearly for long stretches, so a couple of phone settings make a real difference. None of this is game-specific — it just helps.

Turn on a high refresh rate if your phone supports it. Panning around a busy board feels far less nauseating at 90 or 120Hz, and it genuinely helped me track fast enemy waves. Battery takes a hit, so toggle it per session.

Lock your screen orientation and disable auto-brightness during play. Nothing ruins a tense final wave like the screen dimming or flipping because you leaned back on the couch.

Finally, enable a blue-light filter for evening sessions. Strategy games pull you in, and you'll play longer than planned — your eyes will thank you later. Small stuff, but it adds up across a long campaign.
